Momma's Facebook Announcement

My sweet Daughter Alecia Alford has received her mission. She will be serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints in the Bolivia Cochabamba mission. She will be serving 16 months! She reports to the Mission Training Center in Peru on June 19th. We are so excited for her. As a mother though I do have some trepidation! But I know that she will be serving the Lord and will do an awesome job!

More Progress

Alecia received her pass port and police letter in the mail last week.  So now we have all the pieces to send to the church Travel Department. I mailed them off today. I also mailed her acceptance letter to the first presidency of the Church. (our Prophet and his counselors)!

Before I mailed everything I called the Travel Department to make sure that I had understood a few things. While I had them on the phone I asked if someone was going to call me when Alecia got to the Peru MTC. I was told that there were to many coming in for that. So then I asked if they frowned upon worried Momma's calling to make sure they reached their destination. Again it's not a good idea because they have too many coming in. A good problem to have but not very comforting for this worried Momma. Basically, if she doesn't show up they will call my stake president who will call me. Soooo, no news is good news.  However, my amazing mother said many parents send their children with a cell phone and a self addressed stamped envelope. She can talk to me in Atlanta and in Peru until  she goes into the MTC!!!! Yay! My Momma is a genius! So my mind feels a little less stressed.

I know that Alecia will be protected while on her mission. it is hard for the spirit to overcome our natural tendencies. So I am very blessed to have a way of knowing she arrived safely. I am truly blessed to have such a wonderful daughter. I love her very much!

Another Step

Today I took Alecia to get her yellow fever vaccination. She really hates shots and was very nervous. She had jokingly said a few days ago that I should bribe her with ice cream like I did when she was little. Soooo I leaned over and told her I would get her an ice cream cone afterwards.  She is so funny. She perked right up. However, she was still a little nervous.  She now only has two more shots to go and we have all that she will need.  We are waiting for her passport  and her letter from the police about her non-existent record. Once all that is in I will be able to send it off the the Church transportation department. Time is going by to fast. I need it to slow down a little.

Valentine's Day musings!

Well not much to report today! However, I have been thinking an awful lot about my Daddy, Alecia's Poppo! He was born on Valentine's Day so he would have been celebrating his 66th birthday today! Daddy loved the gospel so much and would have been so proud of his first granddaughter and first grandchild to serve a mission. Alecia and Daddy had such a special relationship. They loved each other so much. I know that he would have wrapped his arms around her and told her how much he loved her and how proud he was of her. I truly know that he is watching from above and knows that she is serving and is being a great cheerleader for her. I know that he will be with her when she needs him most too. Alecia has decided to go to the Houston Temple for several reasons but one of them is because she remembers going with her Popo! I wish I could see them together but I know that Daddy is busy serving his mission in heaven.

Getting familiar with Bolivia

The family has been rather curious as to what Alecia's life will be like for the next eighteen months, which has resulted in a plethora of youtube and google searches on Bolivia. And these are some of the things we came up with:
This a pretty cool video... Probably the only one with English background music... :)

Progress!

Well things are rolling along. Alecia has applied for her passport and we have sent off the letter to the Secretary of State that will be needed to get her Visa. We have also made an appointment for her Yellow Fever vaccine. I still need to find a place for her to get the Typhoid one.  The more we do the more real it feels. I can be sitting around not thinking about anything in particular and all of the sudden the word "Bolivia" pops into my mind!! I am very thankful for the times that she is home.  With her being in college, we don't see her as much as I would like. She is home for Mardi Gras!
Alecia has also started on her Pre-MTC assignments.  She loves to get check marks so all this is going great! Some of the things that she needs to do are: reading the Book of Mormon again, going to the temple, and following the check list on line! Fun! Fun! Fun!
